The summary above names the principle. The full atlas maps the twelve pressure points, object aggregate, countervoices, transformed return, rests, the missing twelfth, and the different realizations in the German principal text and English parallel.
Enter the bilingual atlas →Objects first. Then voices, forms, and possible meanings.
The formal architecture is not a code to learn before reading. It names pressures the novels first make physical through rooms, hands, bodies, weather, work, paper, sound, and paint.

Thing → use → alteration → possible meaning. A key opens or fails to open before it becomes authority. A chair bears a body before it becomes office. A newspaper stains, folds, tears, and arrives late before it becomes public grammar.
Four primary realities and two framing registers.
The categories help a second reader compare scenes. They are not six separate worlds or a compulsory supernatural bureaucracy.
Material, psychic, public, and painted are the four primary realities. Editorial and revenant are framing registers through which those realities are arranged, revisited, and crossed.
The five Trills are ethical problems before they are labels.
Each form asks who enters, who imitates, who transforms another voice, who controls recurrence, who may refuse, and what material consequences follow.
Disciplined entry; danger of enforced imitation.
Transformation and translation; danger of making another’s pain artistic property.
Recurrence and total work; danger of destiny and absorption.
No master tone; danger of cold administration.
The Trill after the knife: correction, refusal, listening, and material consequence.
Working record → counter-record → question book.
The three objects do not simply become more accurate. Their authority, ownership, audience, and public use change.
Arbeitsprotokoll
Source, date, direct quotation, paraphrase, reconstruction, contradiction, and missing testimony remain distinguished. It is fictional and source-limited—not a recovered stenogram.
Gegenprotokoll
Julia changes the record’s jurisdiction: names before categories, defendants separated, contradictions kept visible, correction made possible.
Fragenbuch
Questions become portable public practice. The record no longer belongs to the person who first assembled it.
No pronoun without a hand.
The contemporary critical books may say plainly that Hermann is a trans woman. The historical narrative uses the language available to its characters and institutions.
Historical narration
Official designation, private address, clothing, inheritance, bodily continuity, public hesitation, and who speaks each pronoun carry Hermann’s life without anachronistic dialogue or erasure.
Contemporary interpretation
The guides may use later analytical vocabulary, provided they distinguish it from the language of 1927 and do not convert Hermann into an allegory of national decline.
The deeper architecture comes after the novels.
Two canvases, two deaths, strongman logic, the final inscription, and the absent twelfth should not govern a first reader’s entrance.
Dialogic Pragmatism turns the books’ plural form into answerable public action.
Twelve-Tone Writing composes voices, objects, records, and institutions without a permanent tonic. Dialogic Pragmatism asks how people decide and protect one another within that field: claims disclose their sources; affected people retain the right to answer or refuse; responsibility is named; power is reviewed and given an ending.
