What controls, what verifies, and what only interprets.
The project is bilingual without pretending that the two literary versions are identical sentences. It is documentary without pretending that fiction is evidence.
The books do not share one undifferentiated kind of truth.
The German sequence is the principal literary text. The English novels are authorized literary parallels. Their plot, historical architecture, protected recurrences, and endings correspond; their phrasing follows English literary usage rather than sentence-for-sentence translation.
The novels possess literary authority. An event established within the supernatural counter-history is a fictional fact, not a claim that the same event occurred in documented Austrian history.
Documentary reconstruction possesses evidential authority only by provenance. Source, date, transcription status, variant, inference, and gap must remain distinguishable. Adornfeld’s Arbeitsprotokoll is a fictional source-limited reconstruction inside the novels; it is related to, but never identical with, the modern reconstruction outside them.
The Reader’s Companions and Critical Concordances possess interpretive authority only. They return the reader to a scene, object, hand, body, voice, or document. They do not decide the work’s final meaning.

No single interpretation controls the series
The critical books develop many linked readings: ghost story, historical duration, trans life and public grammar, family injury, documentary ethics, musical form, material labor, the two canvases and two deaths, authority and self-certification, and the absent twelfth. Each is an interpretive field, not an authorized final meaning. The strongman thesis is one of these fields and remains answerable to readers who reject it.

Publication components
The Prelude and each novel remain separate retail-length works. The Reader’s Companion is a full critical monograph. The Critical Concordance is an complete reference work incorporating the Reader’s Companion. The reviewer omnibus combines only the literary sequence.
No publication-facing book is described by draft-history language. The works stand as the books themselves.
